Shiner International, helmed by Joe Manus, employs artists and craftsmen who adapt previously used materials such as steel, hardwood and cardboard to create home goods that produce a low environmental impact. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Shiner's products are modern, eco-friendly reclaimed wood furnishings. Shiner's goal is to transform tons of landfill-destined materials into killer designs.
Born out of the Great Recession, when business dried up for Joe's high-end commercial construction company, he decided to repurpose his existing team and equipment, along with his remaining savings, to pursue his dream of creating luxury, modern design furniture. A self-taught designer, one of his initial pieces, the Mood Rocking Bed, was an instant icon, earning him a Rising Star design award in 2012.
Also in 2012, Shiner merged with Home Source International, a larger manufacturer of soft goods for the home. With backing from a larger company, Joe has been able to broaden his line of forward-thinking furniture and lighting, and create a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Marianna, Florida.
